What to Expect at Your First Massage in Golden, CO
If you’ve never had a professional massage before — or it’s been a while — it’s completely normal to feel a little uncertain about what you’re walking into. At Handled With Care Massage Therapy in Golden, CO, we work with first-time clients all the time, and we want you to feel comfortable and informed before you even walk through the door.
Here’s what to expect:
Before Your Appointment
Booking is simple — to make things convenient, you can schedule online at any time through our booking page. We’re located at 14062 Denver West Pkwy, Suite 140 in Golden, easily accessible from Golden, Denver, Lakewood, Arvada, and the surrounding foothills communities.
When you arrive, you’ll fill out a brief intake form. This helps your therapist understand your health history, any areas of concern, and what you’re hoping to get out of the session. There are no wrong answers — the more honest you are, the better we can tailor the massage to your needs.
During Your Session
Your therapist will step out while you undress to your comfort level and get settled on the table under a sheet. You are always draped — only the area being worked on is ever uncovered. Your comfort and privacy are our priority throughout the entire session.
Once your therapist begins, communication is welcome and encouraged. If the pressure is too deep or too light, say so. If an area feels particularly tense or sensitive, mention it. This is your session — we’re here to serve your needs, not follow a script.
Depending on what you booked, your session may focus on relaxation, specific areas of tension, or a combination of both. At Handled With Care, our three therapists bring over 60 combined years of experience and a wide range of modalities, so you’re in skilled hands regardless of what brought you in.
After Your Session
When your session is complete, your therapist will quietly leave so you can take your time getting dressed. Don’t rush — give yourself a moment to reorient.
A few things to keep in mind after your massage:
- Drink water. Massage increases circulation and can release metabolic waste from muscle tissue. Staying hydrated helps your body process this efficiently.
- You might feel sore. Especially after a deeper session, some mild soreness in the 24–48 hours following is normal — similar to how muscles feel after a good workout.
